Lutetium is the 71st element in the periodic table and it is the last element from the lanthanide series. It is a silvery white metal, which resists corrosion in dry air, but not in moist air. It is also one of the rare-earth metals. The price for 100 grams of lutetium is around $10,000. Many people say that it is the most expensive element because of it's high demand. Lutentium is not found freely in nature by in ores and minerals. It can be found in monazite sand, which is an ore. Lutetium was discovered in 1907–08 by Austrian chemist, Carl Auer von Welsbach and Georges Urbain, but each were working independently. Urbain named this element though, after the name Lutetia, the ancient Roman name for Paris.
