Nitrogen is the 7th element in the periodic table, and it is a reactive non metal. At room temperature it is a gas. This element is colorless, odorless, but important. It is used often in the chemical industry to make fertilisers, dyes and explosives. Nitrogen is found in the air in large quantities making up 78% of the air we breathe. 21% of the air is oxygen. Many assume that therefore nitrogen will be harmless but pure nitrogen is very dangerous. Pure nitrogen occurs when there isn't enough oxygen in the air. With too much nitrogen in the air it could cause death. Though, this element is very important for humans because it can help human essentials such as muscles, skin, hair, nails and blood. Nitrogen was discovered by Daniel Rutherford in 1772.
