Praseodymium is the 59th element in the periodic table and it is in the lanthanide series. This element is a soft malleable metal with a yellowish, metallic color. Praseodymium is used in all kinds of alloys. For example, it is used with magnesium in aircraft engines. It is also used in cigarette lighters. To find this element you have to dig into the earths crust. It is found in ores and minerals such as monazite and bastnasite. The main mining areas are China, USA, Brazil, India, Sri Lanka and Australia. Though, it is quite rare. The Austrian chemist, Carl Auer von Welsbach discovered praseodymium in 1885.
