Silver is the 47th element in the periodic table and it is part of the transition metals. It is a soft, white, lustrous metal and it has the highest electrical conductivity. Silver is often used for jewellery or metal objects where appearance is important. Silver is used to make mirrors as it is very reflective and is the best reflector of visible light. Silver is sometimes found in pure form but most of the times it is found in ores such as acanthite (silver sulfide) and stephanite. Silver can be found in many countries but the leading countries with sliver are the USA, Canada, Mexico, Peru and Bolivia. This element has no know discoverer as it was discovered back in 4000 BC in Greece and in Anatolia (modern Turkey). The symbol Ag comes from the Latin word "argentum."
