Palladium is the 46th element in the periodic table and it is a transition metal. It is a rare and shiny silvery-white metal. Palladium is starting to be used (like some other metals) as the fuel cells to power things such as cars and buses. This element is in the platinum family which has 6 elements including ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, and platinum. Palladium is harmful to humans and can be highly toxic and carcinogenic (potential to cause cancer). Palladium is very rare and is 30 times as rare as gold. It is the most expensive metal because of its very high demand for cars. This expensive metal can be found freely with gold and other platinum-group metals in places such as the Ural Mountains, Australia, Ethiopia, North and South America. The person that discoverd palladium was William Hyde Wollaston (who also discovered rhodium in the same year), a british chemist, in 1802.
