Rhodium is the 45th element in the periodic table and it is a transition metal. Rhodium is an ultra-rare, silvery-white corrosion-resistant, and chemically stable metal. As I said, it is very rare and in the earth it comprises about 0.0002 parts per million. Rhodium is the rarest of all the non-radioactive metals. Therefore, it is extremely expensive, costing over $2,500 and $3,500 an ounce (28 grams). The places where rhodium is found is South Africa, Russia, Zimbabwe, Canada, and the United States. It is mostly found uncombined or with other platinum minerals. Rhodium was discovered by William Hyde Wollaston, an English chemist, in 1803. He discovered rhodium from a sample of platinum ore that was obtained from South America.
