Germanium is the 32nd element in the periodic table. It is a shiny, hard-brittle, grayish-white metalloid. It is located in the carbon group and is chemically similar to silicon and tin. Also, germanium is a semiconductor (materials which have a semi strong conductivity) though is often replaced by silicon. Germanium is mined from the ground. It is mined in Alaska, Tennessee, China, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Russia and Belgium. This element is mined with zinc. Germanium is relatively cheap, 3$ per gram. The person that discovered germanium is Clemens Winkler, and German man, from Freiburg, Germany. It was discovered in 1886.
