Copper is the 29th element in the periodic table. It is the first element in group 11. The name copper comes from the latin word, "cuprum". This is also why the symbol of copper is Cu. Copper is a soft and malleable metal and is very resitant to heat. Pure copper looks pinkish-orange. It is used in very many things due to it's abundance and useful properties. Copper is used for electrical wiring, roofing, plumbing, and industrial machinery. This element is found underground in ores such as cuprite (CuO₂), tenorite (CuO), and malachite (CuO₃·Cu(OH)₂). The largest copper mine is located in Utah, but copper can also be found in many places including Chile, and Peru. There is no known person that discovered copper, but mesopotamians used copper back in 9000 BC.
