Vanadium is the 23rd element in the periodic table and is the 3rd element in the transition metals. It is very hard and malleable so it can break easily. It also has more qualities because it is corrosion-resistant which is useful for certain alloys. Vanadium has a silvery-grey color. The element is found iin 65 different minerals such as patronite, vanadinite, carnotite and bauxite. These minerals are monstly mined in South Africa, north-western China, and eastern Russia. Vanadium is used often in nuclear reactors because of it's low neutron-absorbing properties. Vanadium is non-toxic but in contact with a lot of vanadium in the air isn't good. This element is very expenisve because of how rare it is. Vanadium was discovered by Andrés Manuel del Rio a Professor of Mineralogy in Mexico City in 1801. Also, it is named after 'Vanadis', the old Norse name for the Scandinavian goddess Freyja.
