Copernicium

Copernicium is the 112th element in the periodic table and it is predicted to be a transition metal. It doesn't have a known appearence because it is hard to make and research. It is predicted to maybe a liquid, possibly the third liquid in the periodic table at room temperature. Although, only a few atoms of it have been made. Also, it is estimated to be quite dense. It's known isotopes are extremely radioactive, and have only been created in a lab. The most stable known isotope, copernicium-285, has a half-life of approximately 28 seconds. This element doesn't have any use other than research. Copernicium is made in a particle accelerator by fusing lead and zinc ions. By using this strategy they discovered this element. Copernicium was discovered by Sigurd Hofmann and his other colleagues in 1996. It is named after the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. |
