Darmstadtium is the 110th element in the periodic table and it is predicted to be a transition metal. Many of the elements with a high atomic number, such as this one, are not very well known. Scientists predict that it is solid a room temperature. It's appearence is also unknown, but is presumably metallic, silvery-white or gray. It is an extremely radioactive element which doesn't have any use other than research. It has 15 known isotopes of which all of them are unstable. The most stable known isotope, darmstadtium-281, has a half-life of approximately 12.7 seconds. Darmstadtium is an artificial element which has to be created in a lab. It is made by fusing a nickel and lead atom together in a particle accelerator. It is a rare reaction because the ions need to have the correct velocity and angle. This element was discovered by Sigurd Hofmann in 1994. Darmstadtium is named after Darmstadt, Germany, where the element was first discovered.
