Fermium is the 100th element in the periodic table and it is one of the actinides. It is also the heaviest element that can be formed by neutron bombardment of lighter elements. In other words, that means it is the last element can be made to be seen with the naked eye. Fermium does not have a use in normal life due to all of it's isotope's short half-lives. Also, all of fermium's isotopes are radioactive. It is an artificial element and is made in nuclear reactors by the neutron bombardment of plutonium. This needs to happen a bunch of times before you finally get the final product, fermium. The first fermium was discovered by the debris of a uranium-238 bomb that was took place on a Pacific island on 1 November, 1952. It was discovered by Albert Ghiorso and Glenn T. Seaborg. They decided to name it after the nuclear physicist Enrico Fermi.
